I'm Karyn Beach. I work in the field of corporate training (instructional designer, trainer, ... ). I am also a podcaster, a published author, an avid home cook and an occasional photographer. I am also the proud pet parent of Jake, a very pampered toy poodle! But more than anything, I am a Christian, a follower of Jesus Christ.
He is the reason for my career success and all of the other talents and abilities I have been blessed with. Although, I grew up in the church, I can't say that I have always been a 'good' Christian.
Baptized at about 10 or 11, I've always believed that Jesus died for my sins. However, I haven't always lived as Christ commanded. I lost my mom to complications from diabetes when I was 15. As a result, I didn't think I could trust God. If he could take a mother from a teenage daugther that desperately needed her, how could I put my faith in Him and believe that He wanted the best for me?
I spent the next several decades trying to do it all on my own. "If it has to be, it has to be me" was the mantra I lived by. It got to be overwhelming to say the least. And then it got even more difficult when clinical depression entered into the picture.
All the while, I felt I could do it all. God, he was there but he wasn't a central figure. I relied on me. Yet, it was getting harder and harder. Eventually, I wrote a letter, apologizing to my dad for what I had done and I chased a handful of pills with a glass of wine.
I woke up in the hospital and spent the next week in a psychiatric facility. It was there that I realized that God had a plan for my life.
It took another couple of years for me to find a church home and to really commit to living as a Christian woman.
I am still a work in progress and always will be. Like others on this faith walk, I deal with doubt, grapple with sin, and making my faith a priority.
In addition to this blog, I also started a Christian podcast, The Journey - Step by Step where we talk testimony and delve into Bible study.
Whether reading a post, watching a video or listening to a podcast episode, I hope I've given you something to think about, put a smile on your face and even given you a laugh.
Thanks for stopping by!
